The vehicle can be unlocked selectively by actuating the lock cylinder in the driver door using the transmitter key. In this case, the driver door and fuel filler flap are unlocked. The opening request is read in by the left door CL microswitch and is relayed to the SAM control unit, which actuates the left door CL motor and fuel filler flap CL motor. On vehicles with code (V01) Anti-theft alarm system (FFO), an alarm is triggered when a door is opened. This alarm is deactivated with circuit 15 ON. Remote trunk lid opening (on model 451.3) When the "Open rear-end door upper section" button is actuated on the transmitter key, it transmits a radio signal to the SAM control unit, which checks the access authorization of the transmitter key. If the access authorization is valid, it directly actuates the trunk lid CL motor, which releases the trunk lid rotary tumbler. Speed-dependent locking The vehicle doors are locked automatically starting at a vehicle speed of 8 km/h. The function can be activated or deactivated. Activate Circuit 15 Off Simultaneously actuating inner lock CL switch and lock button on transmitter key Deactivate Circuit 15 Off Simultaneously actuate inner lock CL switch and lock button on transmitter key The doors can be unlocked via the inside door openers or the inner lock CL switch. Relocking The relocking function locks the vehicle automatically after 60 s, if the doors are not opened after unlocking using the transmitter key. Relock is confirmed by optical feedback Emergency opening after crash recognition The emergency opening function unlocks the doors of the vehicle after an accident. The crash signal is relayed by the restraint systems control unit to the SAM control unit, which actuates the left CL motor and the right CL motor. The emergency opening function overrides all other central locking functions.

It checks the access authorization of the transmitter key. If the access authorization is valid, the vehicle is locked via the central locking (CL) and the anti-theft alarm (ATA) is activated 25 s after the vehicle is locked. Moreover, the ATA can be activated via the automatic CL relocking function: If the vehicle is unlocked via the transmitter key and if one of the doors or the trunk lid is not opened within 60 s, the vehicle is relocked and the ATA is completely activated 25 s after the vehicle is locked. During the arming phase, the LED integrated into the tow-away protection/interior protection switch (S6/1s10)

low frequency. If the vehicle is locked with the CL emergency locking function, the ATA is not activated. When the ATA is activated, the following functions are performed: Monitoring doors and rear-end door Interior motion sensor tow-away protection Partial activation Function requirements ATA not activated Transmitter key removed Function If the tow-away protection/interior protection switch is actuated within 60 s after the transmitter key is removed, the tow-away protection and interior protection functions are deactivated. In this case, the LED integrated into the tow-away protection/interior protection switch comes on. After locking, the visual feedback is analog to complete activation. Deactivation of the tow-away protection and interior protection is only valid for the following activation. Deactivation is reset with circuit 15 On or each time the ATA is deactivated. An exception here is automatic activation of the trunk lid remote opening (on model 451.3). The previous status is restored during this procedure. Deactivating The ATA can be deactivated by: Unlocking CL with transmitter key or Circuit 15 On Unlocking CL with transmitter key: The request of the transmitter key is received by the SAM control unit. This checks the validity of the transmitter key. If the transmitter key is valid, the ATA is deactivated. Circuit 15 On: After inserting the transmitter key into the ignition/starter switch (S2/1) the ID code of the transmitter key is received inductively by the transponder coil (L11) when circuit 15 is On. It directly relays the ID code to the SAM control unit for checking. If the ID code is valid, the ATA is deactivated. Transmitter key, component description

If the rear-end door upper section is opened with the trunk lid remote opening function, the interior protection function is deactivated as long as it is open. Visual alarm The alarm is output via the SAM control unit, which directly actuates the turn signal lights and additional turn signal lamps. The type of alarm and the alarm duration are stored in the SAM control unit. Acoustic alarm The acoustic alarm is output via the alarm siren. The alarm duration is approx. 25 s. The alarm is requested via the alarm siren in the event of recognized communication loss; otherwise via the SAM control unit. Alarm interruption An activated alarm is interrupted by: Circuit 15 On or Actuating lock or unlock button on transmitter key: Circuit 15 On: After inserting the transmitter key into the ignition/starter switch, the ID code of the transmitter key is received inductively by the transponder coil when circuit 15 is On. It discreetly relays the ID code to the SAM control unit for checking. If the ID code is valid, the alarm is deactivated by the SAM control unit. Actuating lock or unlock button on transmitter key: The SAM control unit receives the request for alarm interruption by actuating the lock or unlock button on the transmitter key. This checks the validity of the transmitter key. If the transmitter key is valid, the alarm is deactivated by the SAM control unit. If the alarm is interrupted by actuating the lock button on the transmitter key, the ATA remains activated. The previous status of the tow-away protection and interior protection is maintained. Low beams on (only for high beam function) Function The high beam is switched on by pushing the combination switch forward. The SAM control unit reads in the switch position of the combination switch and actuates the left and right high beam. The status message "high beams on" is relayed by the SAM control unit via the CAN to the instrument cluster, which then actuates the high beam indicator lamp. The headlamp flasher is switched on by pulling back and holding the combination switch. The function sequence and signal path for the headlamp flasher function correspond to that of the high beam function. The high beam actuation remains active for as long as the combination switch is held in the headlamp flasher switch position. Daytime running lights (with code (K06) Daytime running lights) Function requirements Circuit 61 ON Activate daytime running lights function Activate/deactivate function The daytime running lights function is activated and deactivated by pulling back the combination switch and simultaneously operating the locking button on the transmitter key. This causes both requests to be read in and evaluated by the SAM control unit.
