Well, welcome back to another Dino Daze video. A beautiful Smart Forfour Brabus on the dyno. This one has had extensive work since it's been here and we're going to run through all those in a moment. It's had, you know, all the good bits like hybrid turbos and that sort of stuff and it's our job now to map all of those parts in. So, let's do it. >> [bell] [music] [bell] [music] >> Well, it's that part of the video where we talk about oil. The reason we do that is because we've got a sponsor called worldoflubricant.co.uk. Now, if you've got a Honda or a Bishy or anything with a bit of pizzazz, uh you're probably using some quality oils. Now, I personally use uh Moly Gen 5W-40 fully synthetic. Um I love it. These guys at worldoflubricant.co.uk, they sell it and you can get a discount by using the code Dino at the checkout. So, go use the code Dino at the checkout worldoflubricant.co.uk, save yourself some money on oils. Well, the Smart Forfour Brabus, for those of you who don't know, underneath the plastic body of this car is in fact a Mitsubishi Colt CZT, which is a 4G15 turbocharged petrol engine. And this one's had some modifications since it's been here, Richard. Yeah, loads to be fair. We've done this car in three rounds of work, haven't we? >> Yeah. I don't believe I've I may have covered it as in the sense of taking pictures and adding it to Facebook, but I don't believe we've done any video content on it. So, it originally came in and had its gearbox removed, uh LSD fitted, new gearbox oil and an extreme stage two clutch. Went away, put some miles on that, brought it back. We then had it back, did a service on it, so we did oil and filter. I believe we didn't change the plugs cuz we had changed them for eights when we came in and when we were doing this round of work. Uh we did a cam belt. Did you do a water pump on it? Can't remember. No, just cam belt. So, did a cam belt uh on it and everything, so that'd been done. Sort of reasons for that is this car's done 181,000 mi or 181,565 mi. >> Barely running. Yeah. So, obviously high up there on the mileage and not really got any service history with it. He said he picked it up cheap. So, my absolute discussion was, "Well, that's the only way you're going to do it is put a load of power down it and then have the cam belt break, which obviously would be silly." So, changed cam belt, sorted that out. Uh and it left again. Normally, what I would do, like what we did Gary's red Colt when we did the red Colt video, we'd pull the engine and do all this work in one go. Customer obviously wanted to bend the clutch in, didn't want to do it all in one go, wanted to split it up, so that all makes sense. So, that's fine. Um and then this time round we've had it back, so we've done a Japspeed manifold, a ported exhaust housing, um coupled with an Arashi hybrid turbo with a 2 and 1/2 in downpipe {slash} first decat, which brings us up over the subframe.

Uh we made a custom 2 and 1/2 in exhaust from that section back. Uh it's had Dino Daze uh front mount intercooler hose kit. It's had a coolant hose kit. Um we fitted a alloy side mount to it, have we not? We've done three port. We've done Group M induction kit. >> Injectors. Uh 550 cc Bosch injectors, uh Forge RS dump valve, uh Colt CZT charge pipes down side the engine to allow for the dump valve and across the front to match the intercooler. Um we needed on the cuz he'd got a different turbo on this anyway, but I don't know what it was. Um but the outlet was not the original outlet, so we needed an original CZT outlet to match up to the intercooler. That's the pipe. The little charge pipe at the bottom. Um so, yeah, it a lot of work, basically. A lot of stuff's gone on this car, but what a difference. I mean, I drove this car last time after we like road tested it, done whatever and it felt dead flat, but then I knew we were doing this anyway, so it was pointless investigating into what it was, but uh yeah, this will be a a John Dipper now, for sure. >> Dipper. A John Dipper. I think he's going to finish about 240 brake. And we finished at 240 brake and just shy of 235 ft lbs, I believe. >> Now, that keeps us in the what we consider to be the safe zone for Smart Forfour >> cautious with this car because this is effectively got 100,000 more miles on it than what Gary's had on it. So, I've I've started with uh what you would say we started with, but we started with Gary's file and we've sort of slightly detuned from there. Gary's made 250 uh and 230, so I went slightly easier on Gary's on the way in and then slightly wound up. With this, I've sort of gone the other way. I've like sort of took it easier on the coming in on the boost curve and then sort of tried to put a little bit more in out the sort of Makes sense. >> to bring it in. So, it's longevity. >> Mike's going to Mike's going to have a lot of fun, isn't he? Okay. This will feel phenomenal in comparison to what it did do previously. Absolutely. But, it Yeah, I've a little I normally would aim for one of these between 230, 240 ft lbs and around the 250 brake. I just feel like we were getting up on that. And another thing that this car's got that Gary's hasn't got >> Of course. is the sports cat. So, this he Mike wanted a sports cat, so don't want aggravation and hassle, so I want one welded in. It's not even a an unbolt-able section. It's been welded into the exhaust. So, I believe that the little bit of lack of power we've got there is probably that. We're running about the same boost as what we were running in Gary's. >> just a restriction, isn't it? >> a a little bit of a restriction. Um but like I said, I took it a little bit easier on the rods on the way in, so it's um yeah. Well, a fantastic a fantastic result. Car looks nice now. The engine bay looks sublime, so really happy with that. And uh yeah, I'm sure Mike's going to have a a jolly good Christmas driving this motor. Yeah, for sure. I think this will totally transform this. I think with this, it's a shame we didn't run it, I suppose, in its form that it was. But, I think we both agreed that the reason we weren't going to do that is we weren't sure what turbo was on it. Even the wastegate was a like a mackled mess of welded pieces of metal. >> have some problem, didn't we, with the ECU? We did and it We did when we tried to put a to put the base file on to it. >> For the bigger injectors. >> Yeah, for some reason it's got like a a dummy OBD2 port put in, but then it tees off it's a two ports and then the originals plugged into that, which initially when we plugged in, was down under the steering column and you just feel down there and you can't >> it doesn't communicate with the ECU, did it? It did initially, yeah, but then what else was it we were sort of like I said, "Well, when I get it off the ramp cuz obviously we're just ordering the exhaust and still doing bits." When it actually comes off the ramp, I'll have a proper look and make sure that a wire's not out or a fuse is not blown or whatever. And then obviously we found that what was going on down there. Yeah, but happy days. So, um let's go and look at the graph. Let's have a look at the graph. Let's do it. Okay, well, there's the graph, lads. Um yeah, pretty good, pretty smooth, looking good. Finishing on 240 brake horsepower, 234 torque. That's 214 at the wheels. Uh obviously lots and lots and lots of runs, so it's a bit warm in here now. Um but yeah, great car. Um and as Richard said, uh keeping it safe and the mods they've been extensive. So, if you need help with your Brabus or Colt or whatever you've got, give us a shout and we'll see on the next one, won't we, Rich? We will indeed. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Yeah. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Yeah.
