smart 42451 this one's a bit different um the airbags are out oh my goodness there's more parts there let's see what else is out of the car oh my goodness o la la oh man so what is going on let me show you all the there's there's a lot of screws everything comes out what's happening is this little module the AC h control module the speed is there but notice that the um the temperature the speed selector is gone so we have a good used part here you know with the speed selector not broken if you have the plastic cap on here it is very simple to replace it literally the plastic cap comes off there's two screws one there one there this whole system gets pushed forward it unlocks yabadabadoo you good to go and not that big of a deal by the way here's the little knob for it but if you have the fabric top like this one does you don't have to remove that I have never taken this apart so this is kind of an experiment for me just kind of doing this see if I can get it done long story short you got to remove the entire bottom airbag assembly which is over there by the way the airbags come out with the assembly there's going to be three or four screws of one airbag bracket over here three or four screws of the airbag bracket plus these two connectors all kinds of various connectors all the way around by the way all of it is super easy all of it uses torque I believe it's a T20 or T25 and then there's also some smaller ones that use a T8 torque so T20 T25 T8 that's all you need oh and then this this bigger torque screw here I believe that one is that one is going to be a t27 to pull that one big screw out long story short all that comes apart all of this the your glove box comes out the radios all that comes out all these panels everything comes out this is all loose you can technically if I remove the steering wheel the bolt for the steering wheel I can pull all this panel out and this entire assembly will come out this assembly for the radio unit doesn't need to come out but you basically need to loosen the dash so you can lift it and that'll allow you at this point to disconnect the um the mode selector which is just a it's a cable that runs back there let me see if I can show you where it's at it's this foam covered cable right there and pointing at it and there is just simply a Twist connector on the back as you spin it it spins the entire module there it is it'll just spin the entire assembly you can hear it that is just the um mode selector there and it's just moving inside the box and then back here there's going to be so difficult to do with just one hand there's a few connectors you just crimp them together and you pull it out but one of the other things I wanted to show you guys is you have a basic blend door here um this is not for temperature selection I believe this is the recirculating blend door right here but you also have much better access to that blend door now that all this is out I keep forgetting what that one's for I'll try to remember and post a um a note in the video what it's called and what it function is but that gives you more access to everything this took about 40 minutes maybe 30 but let me just disconnect this and I'll show you so disconnected all these there's one of them that has a pinch release on the top and the bottom and then there's two of these standard ones that you know you press the button and then little lever slides just like the radio there's two of these up there and then this entire unit just comes out so here's the broken one so as you can see the the mode selector just slots in and then you have the little piece right here let me show you your remote selector you have the little thing that holds the cable you have the two uh radio style connectors then you have the longer connector here and on this one the um the button is just broken off so here's the good used one and as you can see the buttons there so all of this work to replace the button boy oh boy is that annoying but up here give you guys a better view you have a view of the airon system back here you have the gearing system over here if anything ever breaks for remote selector it's going to be the gears right there that all plastic or nylon you have the Reser door and then let see if I can just pull this pull this little dash out maybe I'll show you a little better yep just for you guys I ended up pulling the entire dash out so there's just these little slots they slot into a portion over there there's your passenger side airbag there's nothing over here there's your H system where it just connects to so let me show you what's back here so you have the the HVAC blend door I mean

the mode door right here as you can see it spins that that is the mode door obviously make sure that it's in one position oh no look down there you can see um a little gearing starting to get a little loose seems like one day that's a failure point I'll just grease it up with um white lithium grease while I'm over here but you can see how all that works you have access to that um that modulation blend door as well airbag connector and then inside of here you have all the radio connectors right there you have your hbac control connectors there's the three electrical and then you have the the mode one back here you have the dash cluster connector and it looks like this one has the connector for the um cruise control but there's no cruise control available on this down here there is a what appears to be a loose groundh wire and two other connectors for other options that this vehicle does not have and down here you can see the steering gear control you got all of the the Sam unit the back of it you got all the connectors over here you got where the the full Dash bracket and all that connects back there got this the wiring that's going to go up here for the lights and stuff and all that that just runs up along the side so basically there's there's not much to the dash for you guys to see I'm just trying to get you a video so you can kind of understand what's where so if you're looking like for example the OBD it just connects to this panel there's two screws right there two T8 torqus and there's a cable goes back for your 12vt accessory is just a it's I hate these things so much they're such a pain to remove and just connected right there goes back disappears into the harness you have this is going to be for I think the passenger side airbag cuz it's yellow it's going to connect right there to the airbag let me get around to the other side oh and the um the entire fan assembly that the climate module lives in it just literally just sits like that it doesn't click together it doesn't screw in together I mean I guess it does right there with the two screws but the entire assembly just pops out once you lift a dash up and off and honestly if you're going to be replacing that climate module I recommend just taking the Dash pulling it out that way it makes all the other work so much easier and it takes an additional one minute so just to show you guys back here you have the that one blend door I replaced in a prior video got some garbage apparently and back here you can see there's screws underneath that screw upward if you wanted to remove the entire housing for the radio there's another one over there and then you could technically pull all this out and then down in there you have your condenser you can see it down there so if you ever have condenser issues you're going to need to pull the dash out and then you got screws bag here if you're trying to remove the condenser um along with the uh the blower motor I believe those are 10 mm they just pull out if you need to pull the entire Dash bracket assembly out it's going to be bolted to the vehicle here I believe the bolts yes the bolts they actually go in from the outside so the fenders need to come off I have videos for that as well those bolts come out you have reinforcement bar over there for the driver steering wheel to create rigidity on that side and then just literally runs across from here to that side over there and then it runs over there which creates a triangle makes it very sturdy and then obviously you have the reinforcement bracket that goes down to the frame here in the center to give the center portion of it some support and then let's see what else I got back here for you guys obviously is a ECM over well that's not the ECM but that's one of the engine monitoring computers got ground cables obviously do this with the battery disconnected completely so nothing shorts you don't blow any airbags but that's it there's another thing if you're getting to the blower motor you got the got the disconnect tabs over here you got the screws and everything it's all right there at this point you'll just be removing this entire assembly and replacing it all at once and if you're ever doing a fan you got to replace your blower motor or this assembly of any kind it looks like you got the Reser door right here if you're ever doing any of this might as well do the blend door I mean blend actuator do the other blend actuator do it all at once as a while you're in there highly recommend doing it that way but yeah um I'm going to go ahead pop this in get all this put back together and that'll be that sorry I don't have a video of how to disassemble this I didn't think I would have to take it apart this far I'm literally just trying to replace this and I have to do all of this work to get to this it's a giant pain so I didn't think this would be this big video but sorry about that anyways I'm going to put this back together and get back to work and you know make some money and do what I can by the way if you're in the Portland Oregon area and you have a smart car you want me to do some work shoot me a message and I will send you a quote thanks for watching and I'll see you

guys probably never this is probably the last video I'm ever making on these smarts cuz I got uh I got to I'm moving on with a different car oh by the way if you have this type of situation on your roof like this one does uh you do p240 P400 P600 p800 p1000 p500 P2000 then you polish it like you would headlights it's polycarbon it's the same material as the headlights so if you've ever done headlight polishing it's the same thing here but there's an additional UV coating which in this area over here where you see it's not completely destroyed like over here it's completely destroyed it's missing over here it still has some of that UV cating very difficult to cut through that's why you start off at 240 4 6 8,000 15 2,000 that's why you go in those steps but yeah this is all fixable I'm going to fix this all up anyways that's that I'll see you guys um maybe never maybe next time I don't know see you on my other channels and have a nice day
