Step 1 of not being on fire is to disconnect the battery earth cable. Jack the back of the car up, get it safe on axle stands and throw yourself under the car with a ratchet, some extensions and an E14 socket. You are looking up behind the clutch actuator. There is usually a plastic cover. I forgot to photograph it but it pulls straight down to reveal the starter motor. Disconnect the trigger connection… 451 MHD The MHD doesn’t have a separate starter motor, it has a combined starter and alternator (a starternator) which is basically a 3 phase motor that can be spun using electricity or regen to create a battery charge. Disconnect the battery, lower the engine, remove the belt, disconnect all wiring, unbolt the starternator. 451 Diesel The 451 CDI engine is the same one fitted to the 450 CDI and that is very similar in many ways to the 450 petrol engine, including starter motor position. The placement and removal are the same as the 450 but you will find slight differences with pipes that have to be removed. Have a look here. Click if info helped 2 likes 10184 views Print
