Source: smartcarofamerica.com Topic: transmission clutch position sensor and shift actuator Models discussed: 453 Solution status: unclear

Problem: 2016 Smart ForTwo has check engine light and 'check transmission' warning; scan tool won't communicate with vehicle modules; transmission won't shift in drive mode but can shift manually with apparent clutch slippage.

Solution: Got vehicle to communicate and retrieved code P0806 (transmission clutch position sensor A range performance). Solution proposed: adjust shift actuator by moving it 1/4 inch using reverse-Torx bolts (located on bottom of engine, spring-loaded), then perform transmission relearn. If adjustment fails, replace shift actuator.

Key facts: - Code P0806 indicates transmission clutch position sensor A range performance issue - Shift actuator located on bottom of engine and is relatively easy to access - Adjustment procedure: loosen three reverse-Torx bolts, push in approximately 1/4 inch (spring-loaded), retighten, then perform transmission relearn - Vehicle uses Mercedes operating system requiring specific diagnostic equipment (Mercedes Star Diagnostic recommended for complete diagnosis) - OP indicated willingness to try adjustment (post #7) but never provided follow-up confirmation of results
