this video will show you how to install a backup camera on a 2016-2017 smart fortwo there's the backup cam right there above the tank looks like when installed existing mirror I have a pal PLC I'm 7219 stalled I ran to power up to the roof liner down through this panel right here and did the back of the car the back-up camera mirror comes with a separate wire that you can use to route through your headliner and down to 80 pillars as seen here for later connection to the video source wire as seen here notice the rear wires on each end that you can use as a power source for your mirror that will activate when you put the car in reverse I'll show you that process later the camera wiring comes with two different video inputs connect one of the video inputs to the cable that runs to the camera take the positive wire and the signal wire that goes to the mirror and connect it to the positive wire coming through the video cable that leads to the back alongside Zeit on the panels and into the back if you're gonna own a smart car I suggest you invest in the set of torch tools similar ones I have here this applies to whatever kind of camera you install you first start by removing these screws along detail and the side of the cover in the back use torch speeds to get them out this part stays in place and the actual back comes off talks t25 screwed you remove this screw and the rest of these let's stop the tape until you get them off make sure you're supporting the bottom of this tail in for your to be removed final screw order drop down on you lift the bed up at least they stay up and play you have a Cabrio I suggest you lift up the convertible top in the back to give you user access to this is your don't have a power to the back tailgate anymore lift up gently and pull the tailgate back keeping in line that need lights attached here here here is the kind of hard to deal with so I found the easy to just push down the connector and push down on the on the viewer slight twist except you do the same thing for the other side this one has a little locking feature on the end of the connector slide it backwards and then you've lived up with a small screwdriver on that tab it'll come out this is a hole at you so it goes to my connector to my cable connectors will come through this hole there was your power you put them up neatly some way in here and that pattern will be against them later these are the connectors to the power the video input to the camera did you admit to the other end when you're finished [Music] [Music] and then swing it outward and such these are the wires from the guillotine before I made any connection I to two pieces of spare red power wire and black ground wire and ran them behind these panels from the light fixture all the way over to the center of the car I didn't took two words identified on the left side here with black dots on the wire color to use them as my positive and negative sources

the wiring diagrams are sometimes difficult to understand the kick comes with this adapter that's actually the video cable has a little red cable on it right here yes that can be used for power to the beer instead of going by some of the instructions on that I suggest running this power to power coming from the reverse light on the pub and the other can be run on the front the power cable that came with the kit I ran that power and ground along with the other ones so I'm gonna find a common ground inside as well as a graphic power from the reverse light right there to go see the door there's another opening that I didn't use or goes into the engine compartment you'll see the red and black power wires and the other black wire here is the actual de video feed to the camera this grommet coming from the door goes into the engine compartment there's actually a gap between me that the frame of the car in the engine compartment so once I take this off you'll see there's another grounds we had to run into so you won't keep from having run it through the bottom of the car the access to the engine remove these six connectors in front and the back of this once you move those six just lift up on the panel so you guys that's all good just pop it up you can access this is the other connection that was mitching Dorinda roaming through otherwise this can't get through this frame here so you had to run it through another Grumman come on notice before you can actually split something through there a professional lab quarter or do as I did just use a piece of wire hanger that fold to be behold a wire as you pull them through these opening the smart crest kind of low to the ground I was to just jack MIT up the way on through the boots going through this was a simple when you pull away through is actually pull it out and then grommet goes all the way in and it says wire around it I mean uh elliptical tape so if you do that if you open in your grommet putting feet the wire zoomed out other side don't worry about forgetting the other once you have your wife through wind pull your wife through or your curls and hanger in through this bundle you see going through comes out on the other end just have a little room with the cord looking in with your finger and then you can pull it back through I'll commit you once you've got to wire all the way through months you move you with your finger or the wire pull pull the rest of the wire careful where you get to this in make sure it goes in there straight CBP pull that down again there goes you know that who would have enough room in here when you pull this back out and seal this off with little tape they live a clip you put into this there goes that see here you see the other wires that I ran over from the left taillight where I wired the reverse lights into here so they're all wires going through this now into the backdrop through this hole and out the back back in place those cover back in place put a little adhesive in here keep this sealed and the wire to run the other way where my wire from inside that came up behind

the seat underneath this plastic panel here and it ran down into the environment from here as this dip tied it to other components in the car so I can run along with other components in the car there we won't hit against anything heat yeah where there's heat shield guard at the back of this down there you have to make sure you see this enough but I ran my cord coming out of the inside hidden compartment down underneath here and went back behind the heat shield and to up up there I taught it to zip ties up to the bottom other upper heat vents for the bumper good so you won't hear an engine look once you've got this the wires coming through this rum here from the front side don't quote you can see now you look deeper you look under here and see my wires going across underneath and I secure them here you can't see it from outside though up here lights coming through the other wise are coming from this light behind the panels up to here now and now you're ready to wire in the camera remember I was telling you about so putting in good split a little hole in the panel over here to place the word here the wire from here go sooo that panel comes out the backside when you have a cloak just like this that you can plug your connectors to and your video source notice I ran the great power wire to the power wire to the camera as well as feed the signal aware that normally comes from the camera up front that is the so I used both their great power to power the camera power as well as the signal power I used the black one to cover the ground on the power mention before the now connect these two to those to release wiring and a neat little package you'll need about that much wire to hang out to reach the other part and just attaching something here that doesn't move like that wearing come on it there before you attempt to put the door back on cool inside and hitting the remote release button you can come back here and the little cord is down taste of the people in your mind is connecting the nectars - down movies in that way from them [Music] back in hooks underneath the list then you hook these connectors back up set these back in there let's just slide right back on a little bit apart up slide the lock forward drop these in the hole look like a beat me bottom in and then close it up I lift up on the door to get close screws line up and just connect it at the bottom use the hanging now once you put this back in place have a screw in hand so you can put it in the hole keep this one falling out you just set one screws in here go ahead and put all the screws in snug them down remember you're screwing into plastic so don't make me too tight make it snug enough but won't come back on you and it olive oil along here it's time all up I forgot
